AEVA welcomes new vehicle efficiency standard
The Commonwealth Government has released another consultation paper on new vehicle emissions standards, now known as the NVES. A copy of the consultation paper may be found here.
The AEVA is pleased to see several key attributes in their preferred option (option B) including no supercredits, no off-cycle credits, credit time-outs and a sensible penalty for exceeding the fleet average ($100 for every gram of CO2/km over the target, per vehicle sold).
However the late start and modest starting targets are disappointing, while the lack of a pathway to zero emission passenger vehicles means there may be policy uncertainy after 2029.
AEVA has made a full statement here outlining AEVA's response.
