Talk Electric Vehicles with the Launceston Council Feb 22nd
The Engage for Change Community Talk Series is part of the City of Launceston's Low Carbon Launceston campaign.
In the wake of the emerging climate crisis, many governing bodies are making commitments to reduce overall emissions, in line with global commitments to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. With transport contributing approximately 18% of Australia's overall greenhouse gas emissions, urgent action is needed in the transport sector.
Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) have come a long way over the last few years, and have been heavily embraced around the world as a low emissions alternative to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) transport. Beyond the natural environment and climate benefits attributed to emissions reduction, there are also significant human health benefits to moving away from ICE vehicles. However, the infrastructure and policy to support the transition to ZEVs in Australia lags significantly behind the rest of the world, and still have a much larger carbon footprint than other transport modes such as public and active transport. Join us on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 at 6.00pm-7.00pm to discuss the opportunities and challenges of electric vehicles, the implications for public health and what considerations there are beyond ZEV’s to solve Tasmania’s transport emission needs.
